The Department was established in the year 1977 and it comprises of qualified, trained and dedicated faculty. The prime responsibility of the Department is to organize the teaching of Engineering Chemistry for B. Tech. students of all Engineering branches and provide research facilities in the thrust areas of Applied Chemistry and related Engineering disciplines. The Department is very active in teaching, research and administrative responsibilities. The Faculty members are involved in research activities in the areas of Study of crystalline solids, Water pollution control, Ultrasonic studies in organic compounds, Corrosion control of various metals and alloys, Spectrophotometric analysis of various drugs and pesticides and Synthetic heterocyclic chemistry. The faculty members are guiding Ph.D. scholars and publishing research papers in leading International and National Journals.

The faculty members handling Environmental Science are also a part of the Department, and they are actively involved in research related to Environmental issues like Assessment and Control of Environmental pollution. The faculty members aim to educate individuals about environmental issues and equip them with the knowledge and skills to address these challenges. They motivate the students to conduct programs, research, and engage in outreach activities to meet Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Further, they are continuously putting their efforts in creating awareness on various Environmental issues among learners of the Campus and beyond for One Earth, One Family, One Future, drawing upon the age-old belief of  Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam as per G20, 2023.

Faculty members handling Biology course are also a part of the Department. Apart from handling the course, they are engaged in relevant research activities and conducting various programs by the students.
