The Mechanical Engineering Department, established in 1977, offers undergraduate (UG) programs with an intake capacity of 60 students, postgraduate (PG) programs with 12 seats, and Ph.D. degree programs. The UG program has been accredited by the NBA successfully four times.The department comprises 34 experienced faculty members, of whom 27 hold Ph.D. degrees.The department’s laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art software and advanced machinery, ensuring that students stay abreast of technological advancements and are well-prepared for excellent placements and lifelong learning.

The department actively collaborates with several national organizations to promote training, student internships, projects, and research and development activities. In 2017, the Siemens Centre of Excellence was established in partnership with SIEMENS and APSSDC, providing industry-relevant training to students. Additionally, the 3D Experience Centre was launched in 2018 through collaboration between APSSDC and Dassault Systems, furthering the department’s mission to prepare students for the industry. Faculty and students also actively participate in professional societies of national importance such as ASME, IE, and SAE.

Mechanical Engineering students have secured placements in a variety of national and multinational companies, including Cognizant, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, Accenture, Hyundai Motors, Ashok Leyland, L&T, JSW Group, Reliance Industries, KCP Limited, VEE Technologies, RAAM Group, Jasper Industries, and others. The department has strong Alumni spreading across the globe in different MNCs and many started their own enterprises.

The department maintains active research groups focused on academic, collaborative, and sponsored research in areas such as characterization of metal matrix and natural fiber composites, alternative fuels, finite element analysis of fiber composite systems, machine condition monitoring, and tribology. Faculty and students of the department published 558 research articles in peer reviewed and Scopus, SCI journals and 358 articles in Conferences with 3035 citations. It has received significant research funding exceeding INR 2 crores from national agencies such as AICTE, DST, UGC, and DRDO labs. The department is recognized as a research center by JNTUK, Kakinada. To date, the department has published 11 patents and filed 3 patent applications.
