About The Department
The Department was established in 2000 with an initial intake of 60 students and has consistently expanded its academic offerings and capacity in response to the growing demand for quality technical education. The undergraduate intake was enhanced to 120 in 2007, further increased to 180 in 2022, and subsequently revised to 120 in 2025 in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements. In 2026, the Department was renamed as the Department of Artificial Intelligence (AI), reflecting its strategic focus on emerging technologies and AI-driven education. From the academic year 2026–27, the Department has undertaken expanded academic responsibilities by offering three sections each of B.Tech CSE (AI & DS) and B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) programmes, in addition to the existing B.Tech IT and M.Tech AI & DS programmes. The Department has established a strong legacy of academic excellence, having earned NBA accreditation six times for its undergraduate programme, including accreditation cycles during 2008–09, 2014–17, and 2017–20, with the current Outcome-Based Education (OBE) accreditation granted for a period of six years (July 2022 to June 2028), reflecting its sustained commitment to quality education and continuous improvement.

The Department of Artificial Intelligence is a vibrant hub of innovation, research, and technological excellence, supported by 36 dedicated faculty members, including 19 Doctorates from IITs, NITs, and reputed universities. Faculty expertise spans Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, IoT, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Image Processing, Remote Sensing, and Software Reliability. The Department features collaborative laboratories in association with Intel, Apple, IBM, and PNT in collaboration with IIT Tirupati, providing opportunities for hands-on learning, advanced research, experimentation, and industry-oriented exposure.
With a strong emphasis on academic excellence, cutting-edge research, innovation, and industry collaboration, the Department aims to nurture skilled professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs, and responsible technology leaders prepared to address emerging challenges and create impactful solutions.
