Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education (Deemed to be University) is committed to promoting innovation, research, and the creation of new knowledge. The university encourages its faculty members, students, researchers and project staff to engage in academic and research activities that lead to original ideas, inventions, and creative works.
Intellectual creations have a high academic, social and economic value in today’s knowledge-based and technology-driven world. Realizing the significance of this, the university has framed an Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) policy for the protection, management and use of intellectual assets generated within the University. The objective of this framework is to help understand the role that intellectual property plays in progressing research, innovation and society.
The policy is designed to create an environment that fosters innovation and creativity by enabling university inventors and creators to obtain patents or other opportunities for protecting their innovations. It also provides flexibility for creators to share their work
within the public domain where it serves the academic community and other segments of society.
In line with the university's vision and mission, this policy aims to promote dissemination, commercialization and technology transfer of innovations generated from research at Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education (Deemed to be University). The university aims to ensure that research outcomes are directed toward technological innovation and social progress by enabling collaboration among industry and other stakeholders.
The university also recognizes the importance of sustainable research practices, especially in relation to biological resources. It encourages responsible use of bioresources, conservation of biodiversity and compliance with national regulation governing intellectual property and biological materials. In addition, it also acknowledges traditional knowledge and endorses its responsible utilization and appropriate recognition, as well as the fair share of benefits with relevant communities.
Key Objectives of the IPR Policy:
1. Protection of Innovations: Ensuring that the intellectual property generated through research is protected through patents, copyrights, trademarks, or trade secrets, as appropriate.
2. Encouraging Innovation and Creativity: Promoting a culture of innovation by ensuring that researchers understand the importance of IPR in safeguarding their inventions and discoveries.
3. Collaboration and Licensing: Facilitating the transfer of technology and knowledge through collaborations with industries, government bodies, and academic institutions, enabling commercialization of research outputs.
4. Fair Benefit Sharing: Establishing a fair mechanism for benefit-sharing from commercialization among the researchers, the institution, and other stakeholders involved in the research process.
The IPR policy ensures that researchers have a clear understanding of the ownership rights of intellectual property, the procedures for filing patents, and how commercialization of innovations can occur. The policy also outlines how the institution will support researchers in protecting and capitalizing on their intellectual property.
